Handheld 3D Scanning Services — Artec Leo Operator by the Day
Engineering firms, land surveyors, and terrestrial laser-scanning companies hire us by the day for the detail work their tripod scanners cannot do: undersides, interiors, small parts, complex connections, and anything that needs a tenth of a millimeter. We bring the Artec Leo and an operator, register to your control, and deliver in your formats — under your name if you prefer.

On-site 3D scanning services for engineering firms, surveyors and laser-scanning companies
Terrestrial laser scanning firms own the room; handheld scanning owns the object. When a survey or reality-capture firm needs a flange face, a bearing, a cast-iron column capital, an ornate cornice, a failed bolt group, or the inside of a vault captured at sub-millimeter resolution, it is cheaper to call us for the day than to buy and learn a scanner for a few jobs a year. We show up with the equipment, scan what you point at, and hand back files that drop into your project.
What handheld structured-light scanning captures that terrestrial LiDAR cannot
A tripod scanner sees what is in its line of sight at millimeter-to-centimeter resolution from a few positions. A handheld structured-light scanner is moved around and under the object, capturing every surface from close range at 0.2 mm resolution with full color, with no targets and no setup. The two are complementary: the tripod scan carries the site, the handheld scan carries the detail, and the handheld data is registered into the tripod project through shared targets or features.
Handheld 3D scanning cost: day rate, hourly rate and travel
Contract scanning is quoted as a flat day or half-day rate for the operator and scanner on site, plus processing at an hourly rate for whatever you ask us to do with the data beyond raw export — cleaning, registration to your control, meshing, CAD. Travel is from the nearest of our 27 hubs, so most US metros are a drive rather than a flight. Multi-day and standing arrangements are priced lower per day. Ask for the rate sheet.
Artec Leo scanning service: accuracy, resolution and object sizes
The Artec Leo is a wireless handheld structured-light 3D scanner with 3D point accuracy up to 0.1 mm, 3D resolution up to 0.2 mm, accuracy over distance up to 0.1 mm + 0.3 mm/m, and a working distance 0.35–1.2 m (14–47 in). It is built for objects from about 20 cm (8 in) to 2 m (6.5 ft); larger assemblies and rooms scanned in overlapping zones, and it captures full-color texture capture (2.3 MP). It carries its own processor and screen, so capture is checked on the spot and nothing is discovered missing back at the office. We state the achieved accuracy on every deliverable.
Scan-to-CAD and reverse engineering deliverables (STL, OBJ, STEP, E57)
Raw and cleaned meshes ship as STL, OBJ, PLY, WRL; point clouds as E57, PTX, ASC, XYZRGB, aligned to your targets or coordinate frame; solids as STEP, IGES, Parasolid (X_T) when you order modeling; measurements as CSV, DXF, PDF reports. If you have your own modeling staff, order the mesh and keep the rest in-house.
Mobile 3D scanning service: Houston home base, 27 dispatch hubs
Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio are covered by road from Sugar Land, usually within a few days. Elsewhere, the operator flies with the scanner as carry-on and works from the nearest regional hub — Phoenix, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, Charlotte, Seattle, and twenty more. Remote sites, offshore platforms, and secured facilities are scheduled with your access requirements built into the quote.
Subcontract and white-label scanning terms: NDA, data ownership, your brand on the deliverable
We work as your subcontractor. Your client is your client; we sign an NDA before mobilizing, do not market to the end client, and deliver reports in your template with your name on them when you ask. All data belongs to you and is delivered in full; we retain nothing beyond the retention period you set. Insurance certificates and safety records are supplied for your prequalification.

FAQ
Contract Handheld Scanning (Day Rate): questions buyers ask
How much does handheld 3D scanning cost per day?
A flat day or half-day rate for the operator and scanner, hourly processing for anything beyond raw export, and travel from the nearest hub. Standing and multi-day arrangements are priced lower per day. Ask for the rate sheet and we will send it the same day.
Do you come to our site, or do we ship the part?
Either. Day-rate work is on your site or your client's; bench-size parts can be shipped to Sugar Land, Texas and scanned there at a per-part price.
How accurate is the Artec Leo?
Artec rates it at 3D point accuracy up to 0.1 mm, 3D resolution up to 0.2 mm, and accuracy over distance of 0.1 mm + 0.3 mm/m. We report the accuracy achieved on each job.
What size objects can you scan?
From roughly 20 cm up to about 2 m in a single pass, and larger assemblies in overlapping zones with reference points. Whole buildings and sites are your tripod scanner's job; we register into it.
What file formats do you deliver?
STL, OBJ, PLY meshes; E57, PTX, ASC, XYZRGB point clouds; STEP, IGES, Parasolid solids; CSV and DXF measurements; PDF reports. Native Artec Studio projects if you process your own data.
Can you scan shiny, dark, reflective or transparent surfaces?
Most, with preparation: a removable matte spray on bare metal and glass where the owner allows it, and scanning angles chosen for dark rubber and black paint. Clear glass and polished chrome are the limits of structured light, and we say so in the quote.
Who owns the scan data, and will you sign an NDA?
You own everything delivered; we sign your NDA before mobilizing and work under your client's security rules. White-label delivery in your template is available on request.
How fast can you mobilize, and what is the turnaround?
Houston-area jobs are usually scheduled within a few days; fly-in jobs within a week subject to access. Raw exports are delivered within a day or two of capture; processing and modeling follow the scope you order.
