Digital twin 3D scanning services

Digital Twin 3D Scanning for VR Training, Simulation and AR Assets

We scan real equipment — nuclear density gauges, concrete testing apparatus, pumps, valves, control panels, hand tools — and deliver true-to-scale, photorealistic 3D assets optimized for Unity, Unreal, WebXR, and standalone headsets. Training developers, plant L&D teams, and OEMs get a model of the actual machine their people will touch, not a stock asset that looks roughly like it.

Equipment 3D scanning services for industrial digital twins

A digital twin of a piece of equipment starts with an accurate capture of the real thing. We scan machines and apparatus where they sit — on the plant floor, in the laboratory, on the back of the truck — with full color texture, so the twin carries the real labels, wear, and paint rather than a rendered guess. Objects from a hand tool to a skid-mounted pump are within the scanner's range; larger machines are captured in overlapping zones and assembled into one model.

We came to this work from our own need: building VR training for nuclear density gauge and concrete field testing meant scanning our own gauges, cure boxes, and test apparatus. The same workflow is now sold to training developers and plants that need their own equipment in a headset.

Optimized 3D assets for Unity and Unreal VR training

A raw scan is millions of triangles and will not run on a Quest. The asset work is what makes it usable: retopology to a clean, low-polygon mesh, UV unwrapping, baked normal and roughness maps so the detail survives decimation, and LOD versions sized for standalone headsets, PC VR, and web. Parts the trainee interacts with — covers, handles, knobs, gauges, latches — are separated with pivots set so your developers can animate them without re-rigging.

Photorealistic 3D models from handheld structured-light scanning

The scanner captures color at 2.3 megapixels per frame and fuses it across the whole object, which gives the twin the worn decal, the scratched paint, and the stamped serial plate that make a training scene read as real. Where the client wants a clean factory-fresh version instead, textures are retouched and the wear removed.

AR work instructions and maintenance training models

Maintenance and reliability teams use scanned equipment models for AR work instructions: the model is anchored on the real machine and the procedure is overlaid step by step. The same models drive maintenance training in VR before a technician touches a live unit, and safety training that needs the exact lockout points and guards of the plant's own equipment.

Custom 3D asset creation for simulation, e-commerce and product visualization

Beyond training, scanned assets go into engineering simulations that need true geometry, OEM virtual showrooms and trade-show twins, configurators, and e-commerce product pages where a GLB or USDZ model lets a buyer turn the product in a browser or place it in AR on a phone. Batches of products are scanned on a schedule and delivered to a consistent spec.

Deliverables and file formats: FBX, OBJ, GLB/glTF, USDZ, STEP

Each asset is delivered as FBX for Unity and Unreal, GLB/glTF for web and WebXR, USDZ for iOS AR, and OBJ with textures as the neutral fallback, with PBR texture sets (albedo, normal, roughness, metallic) at the resolutions you specify. The high-resolution source scan is archived and available as STL or STEP for engineering use — the same capture can serve the training team and the maintenance team.

Digital twin scanning cost, turnaround and on-site capture

Capture is priced per object or per day on site; asset optimization is priced per asset by the level of cleanup and the number of separable parts. A hand tool is hours; a skid-mounted machine with a dozen interactive parts is days. Houston-area capture is scheduled from Sugar Land; elsewhere from the nearest of our 27 hubs. NDAs are signed first, and the assets and source scans belong to you.

FAQ

Digital Twins & VR Training Assets: questions buyers ask

What is a digital twin, and how is it different from a 3D model?

A 3D model can be drawn from scratch; a digital twin is built from the real object, so its geometry, scale, and appearance match the unit on your floor. For training, that difference is what makes the headset scene transfer to the real machine.

What do digital twin scanning services cost?

Capture per object or per day, plus asset optimization per asset. The optimization — retopology, UVs, baked maps, separable parts — is usually the larger share for interactive training assets, and we quote it from the part list so there are no surprises.

Can we view the scanned model in VR on a Quest or Vision Pro?

Yes. Assets are delivered at LODs sized for standalone headsets, and we can supply a web viewer link or a Unity package for review before your team integrates it.

How accurate is a scanned digital twin?

The scanner is rated at 3D point accuracy up to 0.1 mm; the training asset is decimated for performance but stays true to scale, and the high-resolution source scan is archived for anyone who needs the engineering-grade geometry.

What file formats do you deliver for Unity, Unreal, web and AR?

FBX for Unity and Unreal, GLB/glTF for WebXR and browsers, USDZ for iOS AR, OBJ as a neutral format, and STL or STEP for engineering. Texture sets are delivered at the resolutions you specify.

Can you scan large machines on site without moving them?

Yes. The scanner is wireless and handheld; machines are captured in place in overlapping zones and assembled into one model. Access, lighting, and lockout are coordinated with your site.

How do you make the training model accurate to the real equipment and procedure?

By scanning your unit, not a stock one, and by separating the parts your procedure touches so each step can be animated on the real geometry. We can also photograph and scan each procedure state if your developers need them.

Who owns the twin and its data, and do you sign NDAs?

You own the assets and the source scans. NDAs are signed before capture, and we work under your site's security and photography rules.
