Plumbing Inspector — Atlanta, GA

The Plumbing Inspector performs third-party and owner's-representative inspections of plumbing work on active construction projects: rough-in, cover-up, and final inspections of domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, medical gas, natural gas and fuel piping, backflow prevention, and fire-suppression supply; witnessing pressure tests, insulation-resistance tests, and acceptance tests; and writing the daily inspection report that goes to the owner, the engineer, and the contractor. You are the independent set of eyes on the plumbing trades, and your report is the record.

This is a project-site position supporting programs in and around Atlanta, Georgia, staffed through the Atlanta, GA regional hub on a project basis with travel as assigned.

A Atlanta route runs through red-clay subgrades, saprolite cuts, and metro concrete volume, and a record that follows you project to project.

What you'll do

  • Perform rough-in, in-progress, and final inspections of domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, medical gas, natural gas and fuel piping, backflow prevention, and fire-suppression supply against approved drawings, submittals, and the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) as adopted
  • Witness and document pressure, leak, insulation-resistance, continuity, and acceptance tests; verify test equipment calibration
  • Write daily inspection reports with photographs, locations, and specification/code references; log deficiencies and track them to correction
  • Verify installer qualifications and material certifications against the submittals and the specifications
  • Coordinate inspection scheduling with the superintendent and the authority having jurisdiction; attend quality meetings

What we're looking for

  • ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector (P2) or state plumbing inspector license; ASSE 6020 medical gas inspector and ASSE 5110 backflow tester are a plus
  • 5+ years in the plumbing trade, plumbing inspection, or plumbing construction QC on commercial or industrial projects
  • Reads drawings, specifications, and code tables without help; comfortable telling a foreman an installation does not pass
  • Clean, timely written reports — daily, not Friday

What a week in this job looks like

You arrive before the trades do and walk what was installed yesterday against the drawings. Through the day you inspect rough-in before it is covered, witness the tests the specification requires, and photograph everything. The report is written and sent before you leave; the deficiency log is updated the same day.

When something does not pass, you document it, tell the superintendent plainly, and re-inspect when it is corrected. The record shows both.

Pay, schedule, and travel

Pay runs $32 to $48 an hour depending on certifications held, verified experience, and the program you are assigned to. Hours follow the construction schedule, including early starts and the occasional night shutdown; overtime is paid at time and a half.

Texas positions are dispatched from the Sugar Land headquarters; project-site positions elsewhere are staffed on a project basis with travel and per diem as assigned, and the listing for your city says which one it is.

Safety, quality, and the standards we work under

Inspections run to the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) as adopted, International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), NFPA 99 for medical gas, ASSE backflow standards, and the plumbing sections of the project specifications, under the company's documented quality system. Site-specific safety training and the client's orientation are completed before the first inspection.
